Sustainable Management of Mangrove Resources through Local Community Action
The ‘Sustainable Management of Mangrove Resources through Local Community Action' project was initiated in recognition of the need to work towards alleviating the damage brought about by the December 2004 tsunami that impacted southern Thailand . Expectations were for the emergence of a sustainable mangrove forest resource management process that involves the participation of local communities and other key stakeholders.
In this process, TEI serves as the main implementing agency under this project working in conjunction with LGOs and educational institutions in the target areas. Financial support is generously given from Chevron Co. Ltd. (the former UNOCAL Foundation) for a period of three years: June 2005 – April 2008 to facilitate implementation of this endeavor.
Target area are 3 districts :
- Naka Sub-district , Suk Samran Minor District , Ranong Province
- Bang Wan Sub-district, Kuraburi District, Phang Nga Province
- Koh Kho Khao Sub-district , Takua Pa District, Phang Nga Province
