Ayutthaya was the capital of Thailand 417 years ago,
prior to the relocation to its current location, Bangkok.
The historic city was in great need of restoration and
preservation. However, the government of Thailand did
not have the necessary funding available to support
such a program. Therefore, the TBCSD in association
with the Department of Fine Arts and Phra Nakhon Si
Ayutthaya Province, undertook to support the conservation
and development plan and the restoration for the historic
sites of Ayutthaya. These included Wat Khun Saen, and
Pom Petch. The Ayutthaya Conservation Fund was established.
Campaigns designed to educate and hence raise awareness
regarding the importance of the site, were implemented.
These included seminars on historic sightseeing, Ayutthaya
history, along with tracing Ayutthayas history.
