Klong Lod is one of Thailand's historic canals currently facing severe pollution problems. The TBCSD, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) and Department of Fine Arts, is leading a campaign to create a pollution free zone in the area. The goal is to improve both the environment and the landscape surrounding the canal, by developing the area as a site for recreation and tourism of the inner Rattanakosin Island region. In addition to developing and conserving the landscape surrounding the canal, many activities have been undertaken to raise public awareness and to gather support for the project. A walk rally was held. A celebrate Loy Kratong Day was organized, and an Exhibition was presented on the banks of Klong Lod. The project was completed in April 2000 and the TBCSD organized a ceremony to transfer conservation responsibility to the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority on May 10, 2000.

ในปี พ.ศ. 2537 คณะกรรมการนักธุรกิจเพื่อสิ่งแวดล้อมไทย (TBCSD) ร่วมกับกรุงเทพมหานครและกรมศิลปากร ได้จัดโครงการพัฒนาสภาพแวดล้อมคลองคูเมืองเดิมขึ้นโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อปรับปรุงสภาพคลองคูเมืองเดิม และสภาพภูมิทัศน์บริเวณคลองให้สวยงามสะอาดเป็นระเบียบเรียบร้อย และเพื่อเป็นแหล่งพักผ่อนของประชาชน

กิจกรรมในโครงการฯ นอกจากงานอนุรักษ์และพัฒนาสภาพภูมิทัศน์โดยรอบคลองคูเมืองเดิมแล้ว ยังได้จัดกิจกรรมอื่นๆ ได้แก่ จัดกิจกรรมเดินการกุศล จัดงานประเพณีลอยกระทง จัดงานนิทรรศการคลอดคูเมืองเดิม เป็นต้น โครงการฯ ได้ดำเนินการเสร็จสมบูรณ์ในเดือนเมษายน 2543 และคณะกรรมการนักธุรกิจเพื่อสิ่งแวดล้อมไทยได้มอบพื้นที่ดังกล่าวให้กับกรุงเทพมหานครเพื่อดูแลรักษาต่อไป
