1) Thailand State of the Environment Report, 1995-1996

The objective of this project was to prepare a concise yet comprehensive report on the natural resources and environment situation in Thailand, designed for use both as a handbook and reference by government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and the general public. This report served to facilitate policy formulation, to focus the government's and the private sector's attention on urgent environmental problems and to stimulate the interest of the public in supporting and contributing to preserving the natural resources. In brief, the twofold objective was:

  • to establish a systematic pattern for Thailand's Environment Annual Report, and
  • to complete the 1995 Thailand's Environment Report as a pilot case.

The output of this project was a report on the state of Thailand's environment in 1995. The report consisted of three parts: report of the current status of the environment, highlighted issues, and statistical data.

Duration: 19/02/1996 - 16/12/1996
Project owner: Office of Environmental Policy and Planning (OEPP)

  • State of the Environment (Southeast Asia)
  • Policy Responses (Southeast Asia)
  • Alternative policy studies:
    - Environmental Law in the Asia-Pacific Region

3) Global Environmental Outlook III (GEO-III)

The objectives of GEO-I and GEO-II were to report the state of the global environment. The Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) was actively involved in the preparation of these reports. GEO-III is expected to be released in 2002, 30 years after the Stockholm Conference. TEI served as the Collaborating Center for the South East Asia sub-region and in the preparation of the GEO-III.

5) State of the Environment Report 2001 (Lao PDR)

This project was a part of the SEAMCAP: Strengthening Environment Assessment and Monitoring Capabilities in South Asia and the Greater Mekong Sub-region for contributing to the Global State of the Environment Report funded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Two countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, Lao PDR and Vietnam were selected for this project.

The project facilitated the establishment of a meaningful quantitative base and an ideal framework for environmental assessment and reporting, and policy decision making. The project was to prepare a national State of the Environment (SoE) report which contributed to the regional SoE report "2002 Global State of the Environment Report" and the World Summit in Johannesburg 2002.

The Thailand Environment Institute served as a local expert to assist the Government of Lao PDR in preparing the State of the Environment Report (SoER).

Duration: 01/06/99 - 31/03/2001
Project owner: STEA, the Government of Lao PDR
Sponsor: United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
